Error
Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this 1955-D Jefferson Nickel carries the tenth cataloged over mintmark variety for the date, reflecting the significant number of D/S and related OMM varieties known from Denver's 1955 production. Die markers UVC-412 / DMR-013: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die scratch southwest through the last L of MONTICELLO at LDS, a die scratch east-northwest from the S of CENTS, a die scratch southwest from the M of UNUM, and obverse at LDS. The three distinct die scratches converging on the MONTICELLO and UNUM legends at LDS create a web of secondary markers. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1955-D was struck at Denver during a period of active mintmark punch reuse between facilities.
