1955 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Over Mint Mark WOMM-001 / OMM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-501, this 1955-D Jefferson nickel is VarietyVista's OMM-001 and Wexler's WOMM-001, a centered D/S over mint mark with a D punched over an S. Wexler writes the cross-reference FS-05-1955D-501 (034). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records the mint mark as D/S and notes nothing significant on the obverse. On the reverse, a pair of die scratches leads SW away from the lower left of the L in PLURIBUS; several more cross the second U of UNUM on a NNW to SSE line; and two parallel scratches head ENE off the right side of the M, passing through the O of MONTICELLO. The submitter was John A. Wexler. CONECA lists it as OMM #1, and Wexler adds the Breen number 2739. VarietyVista, with the reporter unknown, describes the D/S as centered. Under its marker codes UVC-403 and DMR-004, an early stage A, a middle stage B and a late stage C are all unconfirmed; at stage D reverse and obverse are in a very late die state.
