Cataloged as Wexler WDDO-002 and cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1954P-1DO-001, this 1954 Lincoln Wheat Cent displays a doubled die obverse identified by an extra eyelid south of the normal eyelid on Lincoln's portrait. Extra eyelid doubling is a signature diagnostic for Lincoln Cent DDOs, occurring when the secondary hub impression shifts the fine eyelid detail enough to produce a visible doubled line. Obverse die markers include a concentric die scratch near the rim above IN GOD WE, and curved die scratches to the right of the E in WE and between the TR in TRUST. No notable reverse die markers have been recorded. The dual listing under both Wexler and Coppercoins systems confirms independent verification of this variety. The 1954 Philadelphia Wheat Cent had a mintage of approximately 71.64 million, making it a common date in absolute terms, yet attributed doubled die obverse varieties represent a tiny fraction of the surviving population.
