1953-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-026

Description

A D/D South displacement documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits progressive deterioration across four die stages with notable concurrent anomalies. Die markers UVC-1084 / DMR-030 track four stages: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS and die chips on T of CENT at LMDS; Stage C at LMDS with a die crack on the forehead, a die clash at the throat, and reverse at LDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The Stage C combination of forehead cracking and throat clash documents simultaneous structural and contact failures. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1953-D was struck during Victor David Brenner's obverse design's fifth decade, approaching the final years of the wheat ears reverse that would be replaced by the Memorial design in 1959.
