Description

With a D/D West displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1953-D Lincoln Wheat Cent presents extensive die deterioration markers at Stage C. Die markers UVC-473 / DMR-023: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack on the forehead, a die crack over V. D. B., a die chip east of the B of V. D. B. on the die crack, a die crack on the lower lapel, and a small die chip on the T of CENT at MDS. The cluster of five distinct die markers at Stage C — spanning from Lincoln's forehead through the designer's initials to the lapel and reverse legend — documents extensive structural fatigue across the die face. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1953-D had a robust Denver mintage exceeding 700 million pieces.
