1953-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-017

Description

A D/D/D Northeast, East triple-punched mintmark documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent records a reverse die change mid-production. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-3390 / DMR-038 for Stages A-B and UVC-470 / DMR-020 for Stages C-D. Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS and a die crack lower right wheat grains to rim at MDS; Stage C with a light die crack on forehead at LDS, a strong horizontal die crack on shoulder and lapel, and reverse die changed at LDS; Stage D with a second die crack on forehead at VLDS, a second die crack on shoulder, and reverse at VLDS. The reverse condition jumping from worn to fresh proves the reverse was replaced while the RPM obverse continued. Struck at Denver in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
