1953 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark RPM-009

Description

RPM-009 is a standout among the 1953-D Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mintmark varieties as a triple-punch D/D/D entry, with serifs visible from the secondary punches shifted to the Northeast — a configuration that demands careful examination to fully resolve all three mintmark impressions on a single die. Triple-punched repunched mintmarks are substantially rarer than standard two-punch varieties, and the presence of serifs from the secondary punches adds diagnostic detail beyond directionality alone. Cataloged under UVC-461 and DMR-011, RPM-009 progresses through three die stages: Stage A is early die state, currently unconfirmed; Stage B is mid-die state, confirmed; Stage C is late die state, confirmed. Both confirmed stages provide reliable attribution anchors across the die's full emission range. Struck in the standard 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc bronze composition, the 1953-D Wheat Cent was produced in large quantities at the Denver Mint, and RPM-009's triple-punch configuration distinguishes it as a particularly complex and collectible entry within the VarietyVista 1953-D repunched mintmark catalog.
