1953-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks five stages including unusual late-life die cracks through Lincoln's portrait. Die markers UVC-459 / DMR-009: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C with obverse at LMDS, a die chip on T of CENT at LMDS, and a die chip in the right wheat grains; Stage D with obverse and reverse at LDS; Stage E with a die crack in the hair at VLDS and a die crack on the forehead over the eye, reverse at VLDS. The Stage E portrait cracks through hair and forehead document extreme terminal deterioration. The five-stage progression from EDS through VLDS indicates a die pair pushed well beyond typical service limits. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at Denver during the Korean War era.
