1952 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1952-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1952-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 3:00 appears on the designer's initials, the date, the LIB of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. On IN GOD WE TRUST, Wexler says the lettering is actually quadrupled, a doubled master hub over a doubled master hub. On the obverse, a short scratch heads SE off the B of LIBERTY from its bottom right, many SW/NE scratches lie left of the upper profile, and many NW/SE scratches lie left of the lower profile. On the reverse, a circular pattern of scratches runs all through the eagle. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
