Description

Strong spread in the southward direction on the lower eagle, lower bell lines, and clapper gives the 1951 Franklin Half Dollar DDR-006 a pronounced doubling signature on the most iconic elements of John R. Sinnock's reverse — the Liberty Bell with its famous horizontal crack line. Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-269 with die marriage DMR-009, this variety presents EDS (unconfirmed), Stage B with a die scratch running east from the lower clapper at mid die state, and Stage C at late die state for both dies. The reverse die variant is RDV-001b. The strong southward spread on the bell's clapper and lower lines is particularly diagnostic because these fine design elements show displacement more readily than broader features. Franklin Half Dollar varieties from the early 1950s occupy a collecting niche that rewards specialists who appreciate the interplay between the bell, eagle, and lettering as doubling indicators on this mid-century denomination.
