1951 Franklin Half Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

1951 WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1951 Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is central. It shows along the bell's bottom, on the upper bell structure's left side, on the clapper, and on the eagle's talons and tail feathers, with the right talon tripled. On the obverse, a small gouge sits left of the lower part of the I in LIBERTY. On the reverse, parallel scratches run NNE from the top of UNUM's second U crossing IB in PLURIBUS and the right-hand dot. A gouge lies NNW of the top of DOLLAR's first L, and a SSW-to-NNE scratch sits above the bell's top right side. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
