1951 Franklin Half Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1951 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1951 Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling spreads north on the clapper, the bell's bottom and the eagle's bottom, and spreads east on the upper bell supports' left side and the lower left of the upper bell structure. On the obverse, a crack descends through the R of the designer's initials (JRS), on the letter's right side, then curves SE. On the reverse, above the eagle's right wing (on the viewer's left), a scratch runs SSW to NNE. Tony Russo submitted the variety, and Crawford lists it as CDDR-001.
