1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Roosevelt silver dime carries a repunched D mintmark where the punch was applied twice at different positions. Die markers UVC-212 / DMR-003: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die gouge from the back of the upper E of AMERICA at MDS, a die crack from the head to the rim at K-12:30 at MDS, and a small die chip on the nose; Stage C with reverse at LDS and the die crack in the hair extending almost to the forehead at LDS. The die crack's progression from K-12:30 at MDS to nearly reaching the forehead at LDS documents the crack's growth over continued production. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper at 2.50 grams and 17.91 mm, the 1951-D Roosevelt dime was struck during John R. Sinnock's design tenure. The nose die chip adds another diagnostic.
