Description
Cross-referenced as FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented Washington Silver Quarter holds the lead catalog position for the 1950-S date with an S/S North displacement. Die markers UVC-0740 / DMR-006 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with die crack down the eagle's right (viewer's left) wing at LDS and a light die crack across forehead and upper hair at LDS; Stage D with a stronger secondary mintmark at VLDS and obverse at VLDS. The counterintuitive strengthening of the secondary mintmark at VLDS suggests that extreme die wear actually exposed deeper RPM remnants. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at the San Francisco Mint in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, this Fivaz-Stanton-listed variety is actively sought by Cherrypickers' Guide users.
