1950 (S) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001 / DDR-003

Description

1950-S WDDR-001, which VarietyVista lists as DDR-003, is a doubled die reverse on the 1950-S Washington quarter carrying the Cherrypickers designation FS-25-1950S-801; VarietyVista writes it FS-801. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties sees the doubling on the lower arrows, the wreath leaves, and the inner feathers of the eagle's lower right wing, and notes no die markers on either side. Daniel Carr submitted it through Ken Potter, and Wexler notes that the photos of the variety are Ken Potter's, used with his permission. VarietyVista, crediting Gary Shaffstall, describes medium spread on the leaves above the wreath (especially ahead of the arrow points), the arrow points, the tail feathers, the eagle's feet and talons, and the top of its head and beak. It notes the reverse design codes RDV-001 / RDV-002. Under UVC-0738 and DMR-004, an early stage A is unconfirmed. Stage B shows many north-south scratches on both reverse and obverse, both middle. Stage C has a crack from US of PLURIBUS to the wing (late-middle), a crack that starts at the base of the first S of STATES and follows the eagle's right wing down to QU of QUARTER, and a late-middle obverse. A late stage D is unconfirmed.
