1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-023

Description

1950-D WRPM-023 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D South: the secondary D lies south of the primary. Obverse Stage A has a scratch rising north off the mint mark's top toward the 9 of the date; N/S scratches behind the neck; a scratch on the neck and the lower ear; E/W scratches on the upper ear; and a NNW/SSE scratch through the 5 of the date. Stage B adds an E/W crack in the upper hair beneath the D of GOD and WE, and a die chip from which two cracks branch, one heading west and the other south to the top of the ear. On the reverse, Stage A has wavy scratches heading SW through STATES and AMERICA, and short E/W gouges through the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Stage B adds an E/W scratch over the NIT of UNITED; two SW-running scratches crossing the upper parts of UNITED's N and U and stopping at the left wheat stalk's right edge; and a scratch heading SW from the lower N of UNITED.
