1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-020

Description

1950-D WRPM-020 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D is turned relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A has a scratch heading SE from the base of the 1 in the date and NW-running gouges from the upper part of the back. Wexler notes no markers for obverse Stage B. Stage C adds a field gouge west of the mint mark's center, field gouges behind the lower back of the head, and field gouges behind the collar. On Stage D the gouge behind the head has been abraded away and the others are weaker. On the reverse, Stage A has a scratch heading north from the E of ONE at its upper left; NW-running scratches off the left wheat ear's top; abrasion inside the N of CENT at its upper right; a gouge by the first T of STATES, at its upper right; and a crack following the right contour of the right wheat ear at the grains. Stage B adds a crack on the lower right of the T in CENT, and a crack running SW into the rim at 4:30. Wexler calls Stage C a second reverse, with long fan-shaped scratches heading SW from the L of PLURIBUS at its lower left, and gouges inside the O of OF.
