1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-018

Description

1950-D WRPM-018 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D is turned relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A has N/S scratches under the OD of GOD; scratches heading east along the top of the hair into the field to its right; and N/S scratches over the mouth and in the field just ahead of it. Stage B adds a crack that wanders NNE from the ear, then west, ending in the hair; two cracks that leave the rim, run north and then west, and end on the lower vest; and a scratch heading NW from the top of the 5 in the date to the tip of the nose. By Stage C the hair crack has become several cracks running in different directions, the northern one stopping at the top of the head, beneath the W of WE. On the reverse, Stage A has an X-shaped gouge between the U and S of PLURIBUS; scratches heading SE from the US of PLURIBUS to the tops of the NE in ONE; and a diagonal scratch that crosses the first S of STATES, continues through the R of AMERICA and ends above the right wheat stem. Stage B adds a circular gouge inside the upper E of ONE and a gouge through that E's bottom leg. Stage C adds chips under the M of AMERICA.
