Description

1950-D WRPM-015 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D is turned relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A has an E/W scratch under WE, a scratch heading east from the lower arm of the E in WE, chips at the throat, scratches above the L of LIBERTY, and a long scratch under that L running south into the field. Stage B adds a scratch heading north from the top of the head into the field between the T and R of TRUST, and a crack heading east from the tops of VDB to the lower bust right of the initials. Stage C adds a crack on the upper head. By Stage D that crack is stronger, now reaches the bottom of WE, and has a second branch heading west toward the back of the head. On the reverse, Stage A has an E/W scratch from the first period to a point between the U and R of PLURIBUS; a chip outside the O of ONE at its lower right; and a long scratch from the lower left wheat stalk that passes under the left wheat stem and ends below the right one. Stage B adds scratches heading NW from the C of CENT, a scratch heading south from the base of the U in UNITED to the top of the left wheat stem, and a N/S scratch between that U and the N. Stage C adds scratches along the left edge of CENT's T, and Stage D a scratch left of the left wheat stalk. John Bordner submitted Stages A and B, Ben Peters Stage C and Brian Ribar Stage D. Wexler lists no cross-references.
