1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-014

Description

1950-D WRPM-014 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D South: the secondary D lies south of the primary. Obverse Stage A has an E/W scratch heading east from the bust just over the mint mark; a scratch heading east from the upper right of the bow tie; another E/W scratch above the mint mark; and a long field scratch in front of the forehead that runs south to a point above the 95 of the date. Stage B adds clashed dies under the chin, a crack running mostly north through the hair above the ear, and a chip above the bow tie. On Stage C the bow-tie scratch has been abraded away, the hair crack has lengthened so that one end sits behind the ear and its northern end reaches the top of the head below WE, and chips appear above the mint mark at its upper right. Wexler notes no markers for obverse Stage D. On the reverse, Stage A has a N/S crack centered on the right wheat stalk, along its right edge. Wexler calls Stage B a second reverse, showing a clash at the lower C of CENT and two short scratches heading NE from inside that C at its lower left. Stage C adds a scratch heading SE from the upper N of CENT to a point between the N and T of UNITED. Stage D adds a crack from the rim to the left edge of the left wheat stalk, which turns north along that edge and ends as a die chip in the field by the stalk's top. Submitters were Scott Rusch (Stages A and C), Brian Ribar (Stage B) and Thomas Kalantzis (Stage D). Wexler lists no cross-references. Brian Ribar took the photo of the RPM.
