1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-013

Description

1950-D WRPM-013 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D is turned relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A has N/S scratches left of the mint mark, NE-running scratches along the lower bust's edge, N/S scratches under the chin and a long field scratch beneath VDB. On Stage B the Stage A markers are weaker. Stage C adds a short gouge heading south from the base of the E in WE. Wexler notes no markers for obverse Stage D. On the reverse, Stage A has a scratch heading SW from the N of ONE (bottom leg) to the top of the E's center arm in CENT, and a long arching scratch that starts at the top of the O in OF, crosses the leg of the N in UNITED and ends left of the C in CENT. Stage B adds a large chip on the upper left wheat stalk, a crack heading north from that chip along the stalk's left edge, and a crack heading north from the stalk's tip. Stage C adds a chip at the top right of the O in ONE and a die break in the field left of the chip on the upper stalk. By Stage D the break at the upper left stalk and the area around it has grown, looking like a C lying on its side. David Mulberry submitted Stages A, C and D, and Timothy J. Wissert Stage B.
