1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1950-D WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D is turned relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A has a gouge under the N of IN. Stage B adds a SSW/ENE crack in the hair above the ear and a set of SW/NE scratches on the lower right of the bust, a few of them running out into the field toward the date and mint mark. Stage C adds clashed dies under the neck, an arcing scratch in front of the eyelid and a chip on the upper I of LIBERTY, and the crack above the ear has thickened. Stage D adds a chip in the upper ear and one on the tip of the nose. Wexler notes no markers for obverse Stage E. Wexler notes no markers for reverse Stage A. On Stage B a very short, thin crack (the start of a scratch, as Wexler puts it) begins at the right edge of the right wheat stalk, across from the upper part of the last S in STATES. On Stage C that crack, left of the last S, has lengthened to about two and a half wheat kernels. By Stage D it is complete: it runs south along the right stalk's upper right edge to the bottom right kernel, then heads SW toward the rim. On Stage E the crack, which Wexler here calls the Stage A crack, has thickened and is heaviest at both ends, with a die break forming from both the wheat ear and the rim. John Bordner submitted Stage A, Brian Ribar Stages B, C and D, and Thomas Kalantzis Stage E. Coppercoins lists it as 1950D-1MM-012.
