1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-005

Description

1950-D WRPM-005 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/Horizontal D: the earlier D was punched lying on its side. Wexler has no markers yet for Stage A on either side, noting that the stage is needed for study. Obverse Stage B has a small chip (dot) near the vest, lined up with the date's 1 at its center; a gouge at the throat; a gouge heading SW from the rim, over the last T of TRUST on its left side; and a NE/SW gouge between the head and the O of GOD. On Stage C the chip and the throat gouge are weaker, and the other Stage B markers have been abraded away. Reverse Stage B has a gouge at the upper left of the left wheat ear, and the die is starting to break above the E of STATES. The entry then gives a second Reverse Stage B in which the wheat-ear gouge is weaker and the break above that E stronger. Reverse Stage C adds a chip at the right of the T's horizontal bar in CENT and a crack on the lower right of that T's upright. Robert (BJ) Neff submitted Stage A and Bill Wilson Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #3 and Coppercoins as 1950D-1MM-003. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
