1950 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

1950-D WRPM-002 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D North: the secondary D lies north of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a scratch at the upper left of the mint mark; a crack heading NE above the ear and ending on top of the head at a point between WE's E and TRUST's first T; gouges in, behind and below the ear; gouges in the back of the eye; and a gouge on the nose below the eye. Stage B adds a gouge heading north from the G of GOD at its upper right, and the Stage A crack now also extends west to the back of the head. On the reverse, Stage A has a long arching scratch that starts inside the O of ONE and runs SE to end between CENT's E and N, high up; a chip between the N's two lower legs in ONE; and scratches crossing in an X between the N's upper arms in CENT. Stage B adds a scratch heading NW from the O of ONE, starting at its upper left edge and ending above the left wheat stalk. Ben Peters submitted Stage A and John Bordner Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #2, Coppercoins as 1950D-1MM-002 and Crawford as CRPM-002. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties. Wexler also lists it on its Top 100 RPM list.
