1949 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Over Mint Mark WOMM-001 / OMM-001

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-501, this 1949-D Jefferson nickel is VarietyVista's OMM-001 and Wexler's WOMM-001, a D/S North over mint mark with a D punched over an S. Wexler writes the cross-reference FS-05-1949D-501 (032). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records the mint mark as D/S North. On the obverse, die scratches cross the tops of the letters of IN, and another starts at the top of the G in GOD and leads away from it. On the reverse, several parallel die scratches pass through the lower letters of UNITED, and others run from the last S of STATES to the O of OF. The submitter is unknown. CONECA lists it as OMM #1, and Wexler adds the Breen number 2720. VarietyVista credits Andrew Jacuboski with the report and also describes D/S North. Under its marker codes UVC-370 and DMR-006, stage A is an early die state on both sides, marked by a die gouge to the northeast above the mint mark and gouges toward the northeast along the top right of the roof. At stage B reverse and obverse are in a middle die state, and at stage C both are in a late die state.
