Description

Cross-referenced as FS-801 (Cherrypickers' designation), this 1948-D Franklin Half Dollar DDO-003 shows light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST with medium spread southeast on the date. This obverse die is paired with DDR-003 on the reverse, creating a dual-variety coin. Die progression under UVC-011 and DMR-004 documents three stages: Stage A is unconfirmed at EDS, Stage B is unconfirmed at MDS, and Stage C shows the obverse at LDS with the reverse listed as DDR-003 also at LDS. The pairing with a doubled die reverse adds significance, as both dies independently carry hub doubling. The 1948-D Franklin Half was among the earliest Denver Mint issues of the series, which began in 1948. The FS-801 Cherrypickers listing indicates this variety is recognized as a significant collectible within the Franklin Half specialty.
