Description

1948-D WWHR-001 is a doubled working hub reverse on the 1948-D Franklin half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a strong spread to the NW; Wexler lists it on UNITED, HALF DOLLAR, IGWT, the dots and the clapper's right side. Because a working hub carried the doubling, Wexler notes the obverse and reverse die markers differ for each affected working die. Wexler credits various individuals with submitting it. Flynn lists it as MD DDR-001, and its Cherrypickers number is FS-50-1948D-801. CONECA's numbers for it include 1-R-IV+VIII and 3-R-IV+VIII, plus 4-R-IV+VIII and 5-R-IV+VIII, and also 6-R-IV+VIII and 7-R-IV+VIII. Wexler's comments note that CONECA does not list this as a doubled working hub and instead treats a number of the individual working dies as separate varieties. The same working hub doubling also affected the reverse of the 1948 Philadelphia (P-mint) half dollars.
