Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-502, this VarietyVista-documented 1947-S Washington Silver Quarter features an S/S/S/S South, South, Serifs quadruple-punched mintmark with a documented obverse die change. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-0659 / DMR-008 for Stages A-D and UVC-0660 / DMR-009 for Stage E. Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse at LMDS and a die crack across upper hair at LMDS; Stage D with reverse at LDS and a die crack across bust at LDS; Stage E with a light die crack down eagle's right wing at LDS and obverse die changed at EDS. The quadruple S/S/S/S designation is exceptionally rare, documenting four separate punch applications. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at San Francisco in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The FS-502 listing confirms active collector demand.
