1947-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-007

Description

WRPM-007 of the 1947-S Jefferson nickel is cataloged by the Wexler Team as an S mintmark repunched mintmark variety, with attribution contributions from Brian Ribar. Obverse die markers include northwest-to-southeast die scratches through the BE of LIBERTY and north-south die scratches below the chin. The reverse exhibits extensive die scratching: northwest-to-southeast scratches inside the right archway, heavy north-south scratches on the left lower side of the dome, heavy north-south scratches on the roof window, a north-south scratch inside the left archway, and a die scratch running south from the lower center of the first L in MONTICELLO to the top of the S in CENTS. This abundance of directional die scratches across the reverse provides multiple confirmation points for accurate attribution. The 1947-S Jefferson nickel resumed the standard copper-nickel composition after the wartime silver alloy period ended in 1945.
