1947 (S) Jefferson Nickel - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

1947-S WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1947-S Jefferson nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. A secondary S lies west of the primary S (S/S West). On the obverse, the doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST comes from a doubled master die, and many scratches head north off the forehead and the upper nose. On the reverse, near the left porch, above the left roof, sits a die gouge; another lies just under the right end of Monticello; short north-south scratches sit inside both the right and left arches; and many north-south scratches lie above and below Monticello. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
