1947 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001
Error
Description
Cataloged as DDO-001 (UVC-143, DMR-002), this 1947 Roosevelt dime is the premier doubled die obverse for the date, showing a top-to-bottom spread on the date and designer Sinnock's initials JS, with extra thickness on the lower edges of IN GOD WE TRUST. The downward spread direction indicates the die shifted relative to the hub during the second impression. Three die stages are documented: Stage A shows both sides in early die state; Stage B in mid-die-state; and Stage C, where a die scratch connects the right crossbar of the 4 to the left crossbar of the 7, with both sides in late die state. The 1947 Roosevelt dime is among the earliest dates in the series, issued just after the 1946 debut, and doubled die varieties from the inaugural years are particularly valued. Examine the date digits and JS initials for vertical spread, then use the Stage C scratch between the 4 and 7 crossbars to determine die progression.
