1947-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Third cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1947-D Roosevelt Dime, DDR-003 exhibits a light spread on DIME and AMERICA. VarietyVista assigns die markers UVC-151 and DMR-006, with three documented stages: Stage A at Early Die State (unconfirmed), Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C confirmed at Late Die State with both obverse and reverse showing late-stage characteristics. The LDS confirmation on both sides indicates this die pair was extensively used, with deterioration producing additional features — softened details, flow lines, or minor die cracks — overlaying the original hub doubling. The light spread on DIME and AMERICA resulted from a secondary hub impression during die preparation. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime was in only its second year of production in 1947, struck at Denver in 90% silver at 17.9mm with the D mintmark on the reverse. As an early-series variety, this DDR documents manufacturing variability present even during the initial years of a new design. Examine DIME and AMERICA for the light spread, noting that Stage C specimens show Late Die State characteristics on both sides.
