1946 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1946-S WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse variety on the 1946-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center appears on AMERICA, DIME and UNUM; the entry also calls the doubling on DIME weak. The obverse is Type I and is a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1946-S WDDO-006, with a very weak spread toward the center on the designer's initials. A die crack runs south from the throat, over the last T in TRUST, and a N/S scratch crosses the eyelid. The reverse has a Trumpet Tail mint mark and is also a repunched mint mark, carried in Wexler's RPM files as 1946-S WRPM-009, an S/S Southeast. An ENE/WSW scratch crosses UNI of UNITED, and a gouge sits under the R in AMERICA, below its left leg. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
