1946 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003
Error
Description
1946-S WDDR-003 is a doubled die reverse on the 1946-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. AMERICA, UNUM and ONE DIME have a close Class II spread toward the center. Obverse Stage A is Type I and is also a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1946-S WDDO-002, with a Class II spread toward the center on the profile and LIBERTY. A strong E/W scratch crosses the front of the hair, and two short scratches head south off the upper lip. From the right side of the horizontal bar of the date's 4 a scratch runs north, and inside the lower loop of the 9 is a small NNW scratch. On LIBERTY's Y, at its lower left, sits a NE/SW gouge. By Obverse Stage B the scratch at the 4 has disappeared and the other Stage A markers have weakened. Reverse Stage A has a Trumpet Tail mint mark and is also a repunched mint mark, carried in Wexler's RPM files as 1946-S WRPM-010, an S/S Northeast. A series of N/S scratches runs through the leaves on the right, heaviest from the lower leaf across the M of UNUM to the E of DIME, and another series of N/S scratches crosses the leaves on the left. A curving scratch passes through the lower N of UNUM. In STATES, a scratch heads south from the second T, starting under the left part of its horizontal bar, and a gouge (dot) lies low between the S and T. On Reverse Stage B only the scratch at the N of UNUM remains. John A. Wexler submitted Stage A and Frank Baumann Stage B. CONECA lists it as 7-R-II.
