1946-S Doubled Die Reverse DDR-015

Description

Struck at the San Francisco Mint during the Roosevelt Dime's debut year, DDR-015 exhibits light spread on OF AMERICA, UNUM, and DIME—hallmarks of a Class II or late-stage hubbing anomaly on a design barely months into production. Die markers are cataloged as UVC-123 and DMR-031. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in EDS (unconfirmed), Stage B in LDS (unconfirmed), and Stage C showing a die scratch southeast under the first U of PLURIBUS in LDS with the obverse also in LDS. The obverse is ODV-001, and the reverse carries MMS-001 (Trumpet tail), a misplaced mintmark variety where the S displays a distinctive tail extension. This convergence of a doubled die reverse with a Trumpet tail mintmark variety on a single coin creates a dual-attribution opportunity that appeals to collectors pursuing both doubled die and mintmark anomaly sets on early Roosevelt Dimes.
