1946 Walking Liberty Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1946 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946 Walking Liberty half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong second hubbing, spread to the NNW, shows on the sun rays, the leaves and branches, the right shoulder drapery and the gown's left center. On the obverse, a series of scratches, mostly NNW/SSE, crosses IN GOD WE TRUST, and NE/SW scratches lie on both sides of LIBERTY's Y. From the left center of the R a heavy scratch runs SW into the leaves. On the reverse, a long, light X-shaped scratch sits under the eagle's beak. Brian Raines submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
