1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-017

Description

1946-D WDDO-017 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong Class VI extra thickness shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the designer's initials and LIBERTY. On the obverse, strong N/S scratches cross the nose, short N/S scratches lie left of the ear, and in TRUST a gouge sits to the right of the last T while two gouges lie over the U. The reverse is also a repunched mint mark, carried in Wexler's RPM files as 1946-D WRPM-030, a D/D/D South and West, and Wexler also marks it WWHR-001. From the upper torch a scratch heads SE to the gap between the uppermost and leftmost oak leaf clusters; a short, weak scratch extends SE from the torch beneath the last U in PLURIBUS; and many short scratches run SE from the olive leaf that overlaps the torch. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 11-O-II+VI.
