1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1946-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting near 12:00 shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials (doubled side by side), LIBERTY and the date. The obverse is Type II, with a small gouge (dot) under the 4 of the date, beneath its lower horizontal bar. On the reverse, gouges sit in the field to the west of the mint mark's top, and a scratch running NW touches the O of ONE. Joe Feld submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-O-II + V. Wexler notes that the coin submitted and photographed was a heavily abraded middle die state (MDS) example, and that an early die state (EDS) example should show more detail. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
