1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1946-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a strong Class V counterclockwise (CCW) rotation around a pivot near 5:00, seen on LIBERTY, the eyelid, the top and the back of the head, and the hair details. The obverse is Type I. Circular scratches surround the ear area, and a gouge sits below the S of the designer's initials. The reverse carries the doubling of WWHR-001. Its markers: a heavy E/W scratch between the bottoms of the E and R in AMERICA; an E/W scratch across the lower left of the E and the lower right of the M in AMERICA; a heavy E/W scratch between the bottoms of the A and M in AMERICA; and, in UNITED, a scratch inside the N's upper opening, just above the diagonal and the right upright. Doug Riley submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 8-O-V. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
