1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-016

Description

1946-D WDDO-016 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center is visible on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date. On the obverse, many circular and crisscrossing scratches lie left of the ear, and short scratches extend north from the forehead. The reverse is also a repunched mint mark: Wexler's RPM files carry it as 1946-D WRPM-013, a D/D West. Large gouges run through STATES and through the bottoms of the M and E in DIME. Strong E/W scratches lie right of the flame and pass through US UNUM, and from the D in DIME a scratch extends W. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
