1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-013

Description

1946-D WDDO-013 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class II spread toward the center shows on IN GOD WE TRUST and the designer's initials. Obverse Stage A is Type I, with a gouge roughly centered between IN and GOD. On Obverse Stage B that gouge remains but is abraded, a new gouge appears at the base of the R's right leg in TRUST, and the doubling is weak and visible only on the initials. On Reverse Stage A, the reverse is also a repunched mint mark: Wexler's RPM files carry it as 1946-D WRPM-012, a D/D West. Its markers: gouges over the right half of the B in PLURIBUS; a gouge at the lower right of the O in ONE; gouges at the lower left of the N in ONE; a curly scratch at the lower right of the D in DIME; and NE/SW scratches through the M in DIME. On Reverse Stage B, the gouges above the B and the scratch below the D in DIME are weak, and the other Stage A markers have been abraded away.
