Sinnock's Roosevelt design, which replaced the Mercury Dime in 1946 following President Franklin D. Roosevelt's death in April 1945. The twelfth documented doubled die obverse for the 1946-D date reflects substantial examination of first-year Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime production by variety specialists — inaugural-year dies carry special collecting significance because they represent the first generation of working dies manufactured for any new design, when the hubbing process and die preparation techniques were being adapted to the new portrait and lettering configuration.
