1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

1946-D WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting near 2:00 shows on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the upper hair, the designer's initials, the neck's front and the bust's left side, with slight doubling on the date. The obverse is Type I. A series of N/S scratches crosses the nose ahead of the eye, and a N/S scratch sits at the ear's upper opening. The reverse is itself a doubled die, which Wexler lists in its doubled die files as 1946 WDDR-002. Its close Class II spread toward the center is weak on ONE DIME and on some letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the M in AMERICA is the strongest pickup point. Reverse markers: NE/SW scratches between the A and M of AMERICA; WSW/ENE scratches across the upper part of ON in ONE; scratches, mostly N/S, through UNITED; and a large gouge on the upper right of the second A in AMERICA. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
