1946 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1946-D WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting near 2:00 shows on the designer's initials, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, and slightly on the date as well. The obverse is Type I. On the nose, west of the eye, a V-shaped scratch and an inverted V-shaped scratch meet, and a series of NNW/SSE scratches crosses the hair NE of the ear. The reverse carries the doubling of the doubled working hub WWHR-001. A N/S scratch sits at the upper left of the second T in STATES, a die chip lies under the middle of the R in AMERICA, and another die chip is under the E in DIME, below the middle of its center bar. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
