Description

Medium spread on IN GOD WE TRUST with light spread on LIBERTY, the designer's initials side by side, and the date characterizes DDO-023 of the 1946-D Roosevelt Dime, a first-year Denver Mint variety. The graduated spread intensity, strongest on the motto, indicates the hub displacement was greatest in that area during the secondary impression. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-755 and DMR-063, the obverse carries the ODV-001 designation. Three progressive stages are documented: Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed, Stage B shows the obverse at mid-die state with a die gouge through the upper O of ONE providing a distinctive diagnostic, and Stage C in late die state awaits confirmation. The die gouge through the O of ONE is a particularly useful identifier, offering a quick visual check before examining the subtler doubling. The 1946-D represents Denver's inaugural Roosevelt Dime production, introduced that year to honor Franklin D. Roosevelt. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, this first-year Denver Roosevelt Dime documents medium-strength hub doubling concentrated on the motto, with a distinctive die gouge aiding rapid identification.
