Description

Carrying die codes UVC-046 and DMR-010, this 1946-D Roosevelt Dime DDO-008 is remarkable for its four-stage die progression from early die state through very late die state, charting nearly the entire service life of the obverse die. The obverse is paired with ODV-001 and shows medium spread on LIBERTY. The reverse of this same die pairing is listed as DDR-004, making this a dual doubled die coin where both dies exhibit hub doubling. Stage A represents early die state, followed by Stage B in early-mid die state where DDR-004 reaches mid-die state and a strong die gouge develops through the upper N in UNITED. Stage C progresses to late die state, and Stage D reaches very late die state, an unusually complete documentation of a die's full working life. As a first-year Roosevelt Dime from the Denver Mint, this variety holds particular significance for series specialists. The dual doubled die status, where both the obverse and reverse dies carry independent hub doubling, is an uncommon combination that makes specimens from this die pair especially desirable for variety collectors seeking maximum attribution value.
