Description
1945-S WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1945-S Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is to the west and comes from a tilted hub. It appears on STATES OF AMERICA, DOLLAR, the right branch, the branch ends and the lower right leaves, and the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, where the letters farthest right show the strongest spread. On the obverse, four parallel north-to-south scratches lie over the OD in GOD, a vertical scratch sits left of Washington's lips, two short, strong gouges head west off the eyelid, and many other scratches appear on the obverse. On the reverse there is a strong repunched mint mark, an S/S North (the extra S lies north) listed as 1945-S WRPM-004. A strong scratch heads south off the E in STATES from its top right, and many other scratches appear across the reverse. Tony Russo submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-R-II, plus RPM #4.
