Description

The 1945-S Washington Quarter WDDR-002 is characterized by a clockwise spread pivoting at approximately 2:00, with the doubling visible on QUARTER DOLLAR and on lower wreath details north of QUARTER. The 1945-S was struck in 90% silver and represents one of the final wartime-era Washington Quarter issues before post-war production patterns resumed. Diagnostic die markers for the obverse include southwest-to-northeast die scratches to the left of Liberty's nose, and die scratches running south from the IN and TR in TRUST. The reverse carries the Trumpet Tail S mint mark style and a distinct north-south die scratch to the left of the eagle's head and neck, nearly vertical die scratches to the left of the mint mark, and numerous additional die scratches across the field. The Wexler Variety ID is 1945-S 25¢ WDDR-002. The clockwise pivot doubling on QUARTER DOLLAR, combined with the Trumpet Tail S and the documented field scratches, provides a comprehensive attribution package for this Wexler-cataloged wartime quarter variety.
