1945 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark RPM-023

Description

Assigned UVC-225 and DMR-026, the 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-023 is a second eastward S/S repunched mintmark variety in the Trumpet Tail mintmark style (MMS-004). The separate UVC and DMR codes confirm this as a distinct die pair rather than a stage of RPM-011, with the precise offset and magnitude of the eastward secondary punch differentiating the two varieties under magnification. Three die stages are cataloged: Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B shows both obverse and reverse at mid die state; Stage C is late die state (unconfirmed). The Trumpet Tail mintmark style (MMS-004) is the initial attribution filter shared by both RPM-011 and RPM-023, making careful comparison of the secondary impression's position necessary to separate them definitively. 1945-S Lincoln Wheat Cents were produced in large numbers at San Francisco, and the depth of RPM documentation for this date reflects sustained collector interest in the VarietyVista catalog.
