Error
Description
An S/S West repunched mintmark using the MMS-004 Trumpet Tail punch style marks this 1945-S Wheat Cent, documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-217 / DMR-018. The Trumpet Tail S features a distinctive flared terminal on the lower curve aiding physical punch identification. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with die scratches running north-south through the RTY of LIBERTY on the obverse and the reverse also at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The die scratches through LIBERTY's terminal letters provide a surface marker useful for confirming die identity on specimens where the RPM may be partially worn. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1945, the final year of World War II.
